If you can’t access your Google Authenticator code, you may be temporarily locked out of your KAST app or unable to complete two-factor authentication (2FA). This article explains in detail how to recover access, request a reset, and set up Google Authenticator again.

What Should I Do if I Can’t Access My KAST Google Authenticator Code?

1. Check for Backup Codes

If you saved the backup codes when setting up 2FA, use one of those codes to log in.

2. Request a 2FA Reset

For security, KAST requires identity verification before resetting 2FA. Be ready to provide:

  • Your phone number and email address
  • A selfie with your government-issued ID
  • A handwritten note that says: “KAST 2FA reset & [today’s date]”

Send these to KAST Concierge through the app by clicking Need help? at the login screen.

3. Set up Google Authenticator Again

After 2FA is reset, log in to KAST and re-enable Google Authenticator under Security settings.

How Can I Avoid Losing My Google Authenticator Code in the Future?

  • Enable Google Account Sync: When setting up Google Authenticator, link it to your Google account so your codes are automatically backed up. This ensures you can restore them if you change or lose your phone.
  • Save Backup Codes Securely: Even with sync enabled, keep a copy of your backup codes in a safe place. These serve as a fallback if you cannot access the app.
  • Do Not Delete Your Codes: If you uninstall or reinstall Google Authenticator, your codes will still be there as long as you do not delete them manually. You only lose access if you remove the codes yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the same Google Authenticator code on multiple devices?

Yes, if you enable Google Account sync, your codes can be accessed across multiple devices where you are signed in. Without sync, the codes are only available on the device where you first set up Google Authenticator.

What happens if I change my phone?

If you switch to a new phone, install Google Authenticator on the new device and restore your codes through Google Account sync. If sync was not enabled, you will need to reset your 2FA with KAST.

Do I need internet access for Google Authenticator to work?

No, Google Authenticator generates time-based one-time codes (TOTPs) that do not require internet or mobile data. However, you will need internet access to log in to your KAST account.

Can I disable 2FA completely on KAST?

Yes, you can disable it. However, for security reasons, we strongly recommend keeping 2FA enabled. If you still want to turn it off, open your KAST app, go to the menu, and select [Security]. From there, you will find the option to disable Google Authenticator.

What should I do if my codes are not working even though I have the app?

Check that your phone’s date and time are set correctly to automatic. Google Authenticator codes are time-based, so incorrect system time can cause them to fail.

How long does it take to reset 2FA through KAST?

Most reset requests are processed within 1–2 business days once your documents are received. Delays may happen if the information provided is incomplete or unclear.
