Why Was I Charged an Unexpected Fee on My KAST Card?

  • Updated

Have you noticed a fee or an unexpected charge on your KAST Visa card? This article will help you understand why these charges may have occurred and what steps you can take to resolve any issues.

Why Was I Charged an Unexpected Fee?

If you see an unexpected fee or charge on your account, here are some common reasons:

  • Unexpected fees usually appear for one of the following reasons:
  • Declined transaction fee: A USD 0.50 fee is charged when a KAST card transaction is declined because your account balance is too low. This fee only applies to card transactions declined due to insufficient balance.
  • Small non-USD transaction fee: A USD 0.01 authorization/FX-related fee may be charged for very small non-USD card transactions under the applicable small-transaction threshold.
  • Foreign transaction fees: These may apply when you use your card for international purchases or withdrawals in a currency other than USD.
  • Pending charges or holds: Some merchants place a temporary hold before the final transaction amount is confirmed.
  • Personal subscription charges: These are recurring payments for services you have subscribed to.

If you believe a fee or charge was applied to your account in error or if you did not authorize a transaction, please take the following steps:

  1. Review your transaction history in your KAST account to identify the specific charge.
  2. Contact our Concierge Team with the details of the charge, including the date, amount, and description.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was I charged an ATM withdrawal fee?

You may have been charged a fee by the ATM if it is outside of our network.

Why was my transaction declined even though I had enough funds?

Transactions may be declined for several reasons, including exceeding withdrawal limits, using an outdated card, expired card, or security flags. While deposits have no limits, there are daily limits on transfers. For specific details, please review the KAST Fees and Conditions.

What is the difference between a pending charge and a final charge?

A pending charge is a temporary hold on funds, but not the final charge. This is common with merchants like hotels or gas stations. Once the merchant finalises the transaction, the charge will appear in your account with the correct amount.

Can I dispute a transaction that I don't recognise?

Yes, you can dispute unrecognised transactions through the app. Contact our Concierge Team with details of the charge, and we'll investigate the issue.

Are there any monthly maintenance fees for my KAST card?

No, KAST does not charge monthly maintenance fees. Your card has no monthly fee and can be used freely according to our standard terms and your specific card type.
