Important: A Reserve Reward cap is the maximum eligible Reserve balance that can earn your membership tier’s higher promotional reward rate. If your eligible Reserve balance is above the cap, only the portion within the cap earns the higher rate. The remaining eligible balance earns the applicable lower rate under the current program terms.
What Is a Reserve Reward Cap?
Reserve Rewards are promotional cashback rewards you can earn by keeping eligible USD in your KAST Reserve Account.
A reward cap limits how much of your eligible Reserve balance can earn a specific membership tier’s higher promotional reward rate.
For example, if your membership tier has a reward cap of $50,000, that means the higher reward rate applies only to the first $50,000 of eligible Reserve balance. Any eligible balance above that amount is treated separately and earns the applicable lower reward rate.
Reserve Rewards are not interest, APY, yield, or an investment return. They are promotional cashback rewards funded by KAST and offered according to the current program terms.
Why Do Reward Caps Exist?
Reward caps help define how promotional Reserve Reward rates apply across membership tiers.
Higher KAST membership tiers may unlock:
- A higher promotional Reserve Reward rate
- A larger reward cap
- Different reward treatment for balances above the cap
This means your membership tier can affect both the rate you receive and the amount of eligible Reserve balance that can earn that higher rate.
Current Reserve Reward Caps
During the boosted introductory period, eligible members can receive the following Reserve Reward rates and caps:
| Membership Tier | Boosted Reserve Reward Rate | Reward Cap | Balance Above the Cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 6% | No individual cap currently stated | — |
| Premium | 9% | Up to $50,000 | 6% |
| Private | 12% | Up to $200,000 | 6% |
The boosted introductory rates are available until 31 December 2026 or until total Reserve deposits reach $100 million, whichever comes first. After the promotional period ends, standard reward rates apply.
Note: Reward rates, reward caps, eligibility, and availability may change according to the current program terms. Always check the KAST app for the latest information.
How Reward Caps Work in Practice
If your eligible Reserve balance is below your membership tier’s cap, your full eligible balance can earn your tier’s higher promotional reward rate.
If your eligible Reserve balance is above the cap, your balance is split into portions:
- The amount within the cap earns your tier’s higher promotional reward rate.
- The amount above the cap earns the applicable lower reward rate.
Your total Reserve Reward is calculated by combining the rewards earned on each portion of your eligible balance.
Example: Premium Member Above the Cap
Premium members can earn a boosted promotional reward rate of 9% on eligible Reserve balances up to $50,000.
If you are a Premium member with $80,000 in eligible Reserve balance:
- The first $50,000 earns 9%
- The remaining $30,000 earns 6%
This means the higher Premium rate does not apply to the full $80,000 balance. It applies only to the amount within the Premium reward cap.
Example: Private Member Above the Cap
Private members can earn a boosted promotional reward rate of 12% on eligible Reserve balances up to $200,000.
If you are a Private member with $250,000 in eligible Reserve balance:
- The first $200,000 earns 12%
- The remaining $50,000 earns 6%
Your total reward is calculated across both balance portions.
Do Reward Caps Limit How Much Money I Can Keep in Reserve?
A reward cap is not necessarily the same as a Reserve balance limit.
A reward cap only determines how much of your eligible Reserve balance can earn a specific promotional reward rate. You may still be able to hold more than the reward cap in your Reserve Account, but the amount above the cap may earn a lower reward rate or be treated differently under the current program terms.
What Is the Total Program Cap?
The boosted introductory Reserve Reward program also has a total program cap.
The boosted introductory rates are available until 31 December 2026 or until total Reserve deposits reach $100 million, whichever comes first.
This total program cap is separate from individual membership tier reward caps.
- Membership tier reward cap: Determines how much of your eligible balance earns your tier’s higher rate.
- Total program cap: Determines how long the boosted introductory promotion remains available across Reserve deposits.
Once the boosted introductory promotion ends, standard reward rates apply according to the current program terms.
What Happens if I Upgrade My Membership?
If you upgrade your KAST membership, you may become eligible for:
- A higher Reserve Reward rate
- A higher reward cap
- Different treatment for eligible balances above the cap
You do not need to open a new Reserve Account after upgrading. Your existing Reserve Account remains the same, and your eligible reward rate and cap are applied according to your updated membership tier and the current program terms.
Depending on timing, your new rate may apply from the next daily reward calculation.
What Happens if I Downgrade My Membership?
If you move to a lower membership tier, your Reserve Account remains active, but your eligible reward rate and reward cap may change.
Previously credited Reserve Rewards are not affected. Future Reserve Rewards are calculated according to your updated membership tier and the current program terms.
Do Reward Caps Affect Daily Calculations?
Yes. Reserve Rewards are calculated daily based on your eligible Reserve balance, membership tier, reward rate, applicable reward caps, and how long your funds remain in Reserve during the UTC day.
A simplified daily calculation is:
Daily reward = Eligible Reserve balance × (Annual reward rate ÷ 365)
When a reward cap applies, each portion of your balance is calculated using the applicable rate.
For example, a Premium balance above $50,000 is calculated in two parts:
- The portion up to $50,000 at the Premium rate
- The portion above $50,000 at the applicable lower rate
The daily reward is the combined result of those calculations.
